A major explosion has been reported in central Paris, police said, with images showing serious damage to a building.
Agents say they have been confirmed multiple wounded and believe it was caused by a gas leak.
The French police prefecture states that the explosion took place in a bakery on Rue de Trevise, in the 9th arrondissement, central-north Paris.
Several buildings in the surrounding area have been damaged and the images of the scene show a large amount of debris littered in the road, about a mile north of the Notre-Dame cathedral. Video images show that at least one wounded on a stretcher is taken away from the scene by the emergency services.
Comes when Paris is prepared for a ninth weekend of anti-Emmanuel Macron protests by the Gilets Jaunes.
