The point of RollerCoaster Tycoon is to create a successful theme park. This usually implies that people come back with fun attractions, like elaborate roller coasters and high-margin charges on food and drink. A player has decided to throw this logic out of the window and devote most of his park to a nightmare abomination: a roller coaster ride that lasts 12 years or 30 million days depending on the time scale of the game.
It is on the roller coaster mastermind Marcel Vos, whose YouTube channel hosts all sorts of strange c reations based on the open-source version of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 . His record triumph entitled "12 Years of Suffering" was recently shared on Twitter by Eurogamer with Matthew Reynolds and is sure that even the most patient people are writhing. The journey is part of the ongoing Vos mission to try and create the longest rollercoaster ride in the game. His previous record was only 232 days. So, how did you make a huge step forward?
In the video, Vos explains how he was able to combine two separate strategies to hit the new record. The first is a small roller coaster that uses the maximum number of cars allowed, 31, divided into 32 individual sections. The cars can move only when the section in front of them is free, resulting in constant start and stop. A second roller coaster takes up all the remaining space on the map and has a single car going at minimum speed.
The problem is that the cars on the roller coaster are loaded with passengers by the great coaster, and can only go ahead of a section once the big roller coaster ends a single ride, that using the maximum limit of what is allowed in the game is 20 laps. It is similar to a small gear that turns a big gear, it is expected that in this case it is the smallest coaster to end up using the longest time to complete – 12 years and a couple of hundred days if you calculate everything.
