The quality of content in Netflix covers a range from the old school SD to the appealing 4K, further enhanced by the option for HDR, which, in the case of Netflix, is indeed an extended color gamut. We kept the phones blocking the function and, according to recent reports, it seems that Pixel 3 and 3 XL have just picked it up.

Note the "HDR" badge under the preview of this screenshot from Pixel 3 XL.

At the time of writing, Pixel 3 and 3 XL still need to appear in the Netflix list of devices supported by HDR, so it may be that Netflix has slightly inverted the switch for the pair of phones. Even so, reports are widespread and I can confirm that I have seen the badge on my Pixel 3.

For any reason, some people with Pixel 3 and 3 XL do not have the HDR badge on supported content , so it is possible that the function is still exiting. The first reports began only last night and, as far as we know, the change is not associated with any version or update. If it is a server-side switch, it may take a little more time to reach all supported devices.

We will keep on eye any official word from Netflix. Usually the supported devices are added to the company list in a short time.
